CHESTERFIELD, VA (WWBT) - About 300 people in Chesterfield are waking up without power Thursday morning after a pickup truck careens into a power pole.

A section of North Hopkins Road, near Jeff Davis, is closed off as repairs are underway.

Dominion Virginia Power crews are hard at work after the power pole snapped and the transformer caught fire.

The crash happened just before midnight. Another driver involved in the accident says he and the driver of the truck were passing each other in opposite directions when the truck plowed into his car.

"As soon as I went to pass him, it's like he immediately turned his wheel and slammed right into me. As I was going across to get out of the car, I saw him hit the power pole," said Dakota Bertram.

No one was severely injured in the crash. Charges are pending against the truck driver.

Repairs are going to take several hours, through the morning.
