Amelia Manhunt: Search widens to across the country

AMELIA, VA (WWBT) - The search for a kidnapped Amelia County woman and her potentially dangerous abductor is now spreading across the country.

The US Marshals say this case is its number one priority.  The spokesperson says they are tracking down several leads in other states.

They want to find Olene Brooks alive and well. She was taken from a Poorhouse Road home in Amelia County on Thursday after several family members were held hostage at gunpoint by 43-year-old Dana Lee William.

The body of Olene's husband, a longtime paramedic Woodell Brooks was also discovered. The medical examiner has yet to release his cause of death.

Now, Dana William is considered armed and extremely dangerous. He may be driving Olene's 2010 silver Dodge Caravan.

"He made it clear it was going to be taken to the extreme," William's former hostage Shelia Smith said in an interview on Monday. "He wanted my stepdad, my mom and himself to be taken. Someone has talked to him somewhere. He could not have done all of this alone. Somone has helped him in some way."

Dana William was released from prison last summer following a rape conviction. The registered sex offender was also found guilty of violating a protective order. He has two children with Olene Brook's daughter.

Call police if you see William.
