Hopewell police search for man involved in bank robbery

HOPEWELL, VA (WWBT) - Hopewell police are searching for a man in connection to a robbery late Wednesday morning.

It happened at 11:24 a.m. at the Hopewell Chemical Federal Credit Union located at 702 Elm St.

Police say the suspect approached an employee with an envelope in his hand with a note demanding money. After receiving an undisclosed amount of money, police say the suspect was seen running south behind the building carrying the envelope.

Police are searching for a 5'10" Hispanic or black man with a light complexion and a mustache. They say the suspect is in his late 20s or early 30s, weighs 160 to 165 pounds. He was wearing a blue hoodie zip up jacket, black t-shirt, blue jeans, black hat, white tennis shoes and a white earbud in his right ear.

Police say a Toyota Scion with black rims was also in the area when the suspect left the scene.
