RICHMOND, VA (WWBT) - Virginia Beach-based Taylor's Do It Centers is purchasing Pleasants Hardware, a business that has been in Richmond for more than a century.
Pleasants was founded in 1915, and has been owned by the C.F. Sauer company since the 1980s. Taylor's Do It Centers officials say the inventory will be very similar, except Pleasants will no longer be affiliated with Ace Hardware.
The store will be operating under Do It Best Corp, which is owned by Taylor's Do It Centers.
The new owners also say they will be continuing the friendly and accommodating reputation of the store.
"We hope to come in, and maybe add in a few new categories of products that we think carry that we think are fun and exciting and have done well for us," said Joe Taylor of Taylor's Do It Centers. "But all in all, things remain the same."
Pleasants' first store on West Broad Street has already been slated to close to make room for a Whole Foods grocery market.
The company hopes to filter these employees to other local Pleasants stores.
Demolition of this Pleasants is slated to begin this spring. Pleasants' current owners are set to transfer ownership next month.
