Suffolk man claims $1 million Powerball prize

SUFFOLK, VA (WWBT) - Matthew Brewer of Suffolk claimed his $1 million prize on Monday after his ticket matched five numbers in Saturday's Powerball drawing.

"It would have been nice to win the whole thing, but I'm not going to argue with this," he said.

Brewer, an auto mechanic, says he plans to invest his winnings.

Convenience on the Go at 1441 Holland Road in Suffolk will receive a $10,000 bonus from Virginia Lottery for selling the winning ticket. That store is less than a block away from a store that sold a $1 million winning ticket in the Virginia's New Year's Millionaire Raffle drawing on Jan. 1.

The winning numbers from Saturday's drawing were 16-19-32-34-57, and the Powerball number was 13. Brewer's ticket was one of 28 nationwide to win the $1 million prize, and the only one in Virginia. Two tickets sold in Central Virginia were $50,000 winners.

The estimated jackpot for Wednesday's drawing is now $1.4 billion.
