HENRICO, VA (WWBT) - Henrico police, fire and state police found the body of a mother who was reported missing on Christmas Eve.

Bonnie Denise Bates, 48, was found inside her car which was submerged at Deep Bottom Park Sunday, about 100 yards from the boat ramp. Police believe she committed suicide.

Henrico fire said they received a call around 6 p.m. for a possible vehicle under water at Deep Bottom Park. The call was believed to be made by Bates.

Police arrived on scene but didn't see any signs for a car in the water. They called off the search around midnight on Christmas Eve when they could no longer see in the water, due to fog and debris. They started searching again on Christmas Day, along with Henrico police, but the conditions were still unsafe to search the waters. Crews attempted to search again on Saturday, but cold water and high tide hampered their search. Fire crews then requested the help of the Virginia State Police, hoping their advanced technology will help in the search. Henrico fire, police and state police were on back on scene around 9 a.m. Sunday to continue the search. They were able to find Bates' body inside the car, and they pulled the car from the water in the afternoon.

"[It's a] real big effort to get everybody out there to try and locate the vehicle, which was located under water," Lieutenant George Wise II, with the Henrico County Police Department, said.
