ROCKBRIDGE COUNTY, VA (WWBT) - The man considered armed and dangerous was located and deceased, according to Alert Rockbridge.

"Rockbridge Co, Lexington, and Buena Vista, the recent search for the suspect who shot at a local deputy has ended. The area is safe and there is no longer a threat to safety. The suspect has been located, deceased," the alert said.

Deputies have found William Evan Hall died from a self-inflicted gunshot wound, they said in a press conference. The gun was found near Hall's body.

Earlier, state police told WSLS.com they believed Hall may have been inside the Redeeming Life Ministries Church in Rockbridge County. Deputies identified the church as a possible hideout around 11 a.m.

Police said Hall shot at a sheriff deputy and was considered armed and dangerous. A Rockbridge Sheriff deputy tried to pull over Hall on Saturday. Instead of pulling over, Hall shot two times at the deputy's patrol vehicle, police said. The deputy was not harmed and pursued Hall, but police said he got away and his car was found abandoned off of Route 501. Police were not sure if Hall was the only person inside the vehicle.

The manhunt led Rockbridge and Buena Vista City Public Schools  to close for the school day on Monday and the sheriff's office is warning residents to keep their homes locked and vehicles secure.

The Rockbridge County Sheriff's Office has obtained felony warrants for an incident that happened on Saturday.

Hall was wanted for attempted capital murder, use of a firearm in the commission of a felony, possession of a firearm by a convicted felon, shooting at a law enforcement vehicle and eluding a law enforcement officer.

The investigation has been going on for three days.
