MOST WANTED WEDNESDAY: Eugene Cheatham

RICHMOND, VA (WWBT) - A manhunt is underway in Richmond for Eugene Cheatham. He's a convicted felon who's been on the run since August.

U.S. Marshals say Cheatham violated his probation. He's got a violent criminal record, and investigators are concerned he may be armed and very dangerous.

Back in March was the last time police had contact with Eugene Cheatham. It happened in the 1100 block of North 2nd Street when officers executing a search warrant were forced to bust down a door and rush inside.

"An actual door had to be breached on a house, with kids in a house," said Brian Stalnaker with the USMS Fugitive Task Force. "Numerous drugs and numerous other things were found in the apartment. Those charges were later nolle pros, but he was arrested at the time."

Cheatham has already served time for drug convictions, but investigators say his addictions even haunted him in prison.

"He had incidents of using drugs in prison, and once he got out he just started using drugs again," said Stalnaker.

Investigators believe being on the run has Cheatham falling back on old habits.

"As soon as they get out of prison, they feel like they need to go back to their old ways, get a fix," said Stalnaker. "And once they get into that frame of mind, it's back to their same old self."

Investigators say Cheatham has a violent criminal history, including firearm charges, robbery, and assault and battery.

"People who are on drugs can be very dangerous, very desperate and at this time he knows he's violated his probation," said Stalnaker. "He knows he's wanted, so that's a deadly combination."

Investigators caution that Cheatham should be considered armed and dangerous.

"We feel like he's dealing, we definitely feel like he's still using, which is very dangerous...very dangerous combination," said Stalnaker.

Eugene's last known address is on Rosetta Street in Fairfield Court. Investigators believe he is still in the area.

"He's a long-time Richmond guy, and we feel like most of his family still lives in the Richmond area," said Stalnaker.

Cheatham is known on the streets as "Pico" and has a tombstone tattoo on his arm with the letters "R-I-P".
