(WWBT) - There will be a hearing Thursday in a civil case filed by the family of a Virginia man, who died in police custody two years ago.

Newly released video shows what happened leading up to his death.

Three South Boston police officers took 46-year-old Linwood Lambert to a nearby hospital after they found him acting strangely in a hotel room in 2013.

When they arrived at the hospital, video shows Lambert running and crashing into the front doors, then getting tased by three officers.

Lambert is then told he's under arrest and taken away in the squad car, where he's tased again.

MSNBC reports the officers discharged their tasers 20 times.

Lambert was unconscious when they arrived at the jail. He would later be pronounced dead at the hospital.

The family is suing the police department for $25 million.Complaint

According to the complaint, the family claims the officers involved deprived Lambert of his Fourth, Eight, and Fourteenth Amendment rights because of the "unlawfully arresting, maliciously prosecuting, and using excessive, unreasonable, and deadly force against Linwood Lambert."

The family also claims that the South Boston Police Department tried to cover up the case.

Attorneys for the defendants have filed a motion for sanctions against the family's attorneys for the "unfounded, inflammatory, and outrageous allegation that Linwood Lambert Jr. was murdered by Defendants."

A trial is scheduled for May 2016.
