I-85 in Dinwiddie re-opens after truck catches fire, two killed

DINWIDDIE, VA (WWBT) - Two people died in Dinwiddie County Saturday afternoon, after their truck ran off the road, overturned and caught fire. The crash happened around 3:24 p.m. on Interstate 85 north near the exit for State Route 650.

A Virginia State Police investigation revealed a 1997 Ford Pickup was traveling on Interstate 85 in the left lane when the truck ran off the road, hit a tree, overturned and caught fire.

The two occupants of the 1997 Ford died at the scene. It is unknown if they were wearing seat belts.

The two deceased were transported to the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner in Richmond for positive identification and autopsy.

The names of the deceased are being withheld until next of kin notification can be made.

The investigation is ongoing.
