RICHMOND, VA (WWBT) - Crews are investigating after several cars caught fire at a car lot in South Richmond. The owner believes the fire was caused by an electrical issue.

The fire started around 2:30 a.m. Friday on Deepwater Terminal Road, near Phillip Morris.

Mark Motley, the president and CEO of Motley's Richmond Auto Auction, says a vendor was dropping off vehicles when he saw the flames and called 911. Surveillance video from the building leads the owner to believe there was an electrical issue with one car, which sparked a fire and the flames spread throughout the adjacent cars.

10 cars were destroyed by the fire. The cars were brought to the lot to be auctioned off.

The company is insured and will make settlements with the clients to cover the loss.

The cause of the fire is still under investigation, but investigators say the lot is very secure with minimal odds of someone coming into it. The fire appears to be accidental and not arson.
