Off-duty Richmond officer involved in shooting at gas station

RICHMOND, VA (WWBT) - Police are investigating a shooting that occurred at the Sunoco gas station located in Chesterfield.

The shooting occurred around 9:30 Saturday morning in the 7500 block of Midlothian Turnpike.

According to Chesterfield Police, an off-duty Richmond Police Officer was having his vehicle washed at the gas station when a male suspect entered the Officer's vehicle and drove it through the wash.

The off-duty officer approached the suspect and told him to exit the vehicle which led to a confrontation.

During the confrontation, the suspect was shot and he was transported to Chippenham Hospital, where he later died.

The suspect's identity is being withheld pending notification of next of kin.
