VCU Police: Monday's robbery on W. Grace St. was a false report

RICHMOND, VA (WWBT) - VCU Police originally reported a robbery in the 900 block of West Grace Street early Monday morning, but it turned out they received a false report.

"Early this morning, VCU Police issued a crime alert via mass e-mail regarding an armed robbery reported in the 900 block of West Grace Street.  After an extensive investigation today by VCU Police, detectives have determined that a robbery did not occur.

VCU Police issued the crime alert, and suspect description, based on the information that was reported. The department issues crime alerts when a situation represents a significant risk and danger to VCU community members. The VCU Police Department regrets that the false report included a fabricated description of an armed black male.

The department's investigation into the false report is ongoing at this time and appropriate actions will be taken. The purpose of this message is to advise VCU community members that a robbery did not occur early this morning in the 900 block of West Grace Street."
