Teen charged with felony in Colonial Heights school threat
COLONIAL HEIGHTS, VA (WWBT) - A 13-year-old faces a felony charge in connection with a threatening message at Colonial Heights Middle School.
The 8th grade student faces a felony charge of writing a threat on school grounds and misdemeanor destruction of property charge, according to Colonial Heights Police.
A picture of a gun was scribbled on a bathroom stall in the school referencing Nov. 5. As soon as administrators learned of the threat, they began investigating and bringing in police. Principal Hortz says school officials found the message in the school at the end of the school day on Thursday. They say it is not an imminent threat. Parents were notified by phone and Facebook on Thursday. Extra security was on hand on Friday morning.
Officers in Colonial Heights and Goochland are also on high alert after threats were made to schools in both districts. extra security was on hand for arrival Friday morning.The principal says they do not believe that this threat is eminent, but they will be adding extra security.
Godwin High School in Henrico also had additional officers and a brief lockdown on Friday.
