CHESTERFIELD, VA (WWBT) - Chesterfield Police arrested a robbery suspect following a police chase Monday morning.

The robbery happened in the 5700 block of Hopkins Road at the Walmart Neighborhood Market around 10 a.m. Police say the suspect, John Miller, 29, "entered the store, approached the customer service counter, displayed a handgun and demanded cash," then left in a green 2001 Ford Crown Victoria.

An officer later spotted the suspect's vehicle near the intersection of Cogbill and Hopkins roads, but the suspect took off. Police pursued the suspect to the area of Belmont Road and Chippenham Parkway, where the suspect's vehicle ran off the road. Police say he struggled with officers but was taken into custody.

Miller is charged with robbery, use of a firearm in the commission of a felony, possession of a firearm by a convicted felon, felony eluding police, felony hit-and-run, obstruction of justice and driving while suspended. Police say he was transported to VCU Medical Center for "a medical issue unrelated to the incident."

No one was injured during the robbery.

While responding to the scene, officers found a 73-year-old woman armed with a handgun in the store. Witnesses say she pulled out the gun and tried to find the robbery suspect. Police detained the woman, determined she was not involved in the robbery and released her.
