RICHMOND, VA (WWBT) - A GRTC bus struck a utility pole in the Randolph neighborhood leaving hundreds without power.
No one was on board the bus and there are no reported injuries, according to GRTC. The driver stopped the bus and got out to check on a problem with the destination sign when the bus began to move, GRTC officials said. The bus hit the pole, then a tree before coming to a stop in the front yards of homes at Colorado Ave. and Meadow St. around 10 a.m.
Dominion reports 646 customers are without power in the area. The online outage map puts an estimated time for restoration at 2 p.m. to 4 p.m.
GRTC is investigating why the bus began moving after the driver reported stopping the vehicle.
A replacement bus was put into service on the Route 3 Robinson to continue providing transit service to customers.
