CAROLINE, VA (WWBT) - Virginia State Police say a Beaverdam woman was killed after her vehicle and a Mack truck carrying tree debris crashed into each other in Caroline County.
Police say it happened shortly after 12:30 p.m. on Route 639 (Lady Smith Road), about 125 feet west of Route 738 (Anderson Mill Road). Investigators say a 1995 Mack Truck was traveling west on 639, and as it went around a curve, it crossed the double yellow line and turned over onto a 2007 Pontiac traveling east.
Stumps and tree limbs being hauled by the truck spilled onto the car and the roadway.
State Police say the driver of the truck, 50-year-old Gary E. Hudson of Unionville, was not injured in the crash; he was wearing a seatbelt. The driver of the Pontiac, 64-year-old Gwendolyn L. Gray, died at the scene. Police say she was not wearing a seatbelt.
Speed is being considered a factor in the crash, and Hudson has been charged with Reckless Driving.
