NBC12 helps #ClearTheShelters on August 15

RICHMOND, VA (WWBT) - Clear the Shelters Day is Saturday and NBC12 is helping find homes for pets in Central Virginia.

A few shelters are offering reduced-cost or free adoptions on Saturday. Here's a list of local shelters involved in the nationwide push:

  • Richmond SPCA is waiving the entire adoption fees on Saturday for every animal adopted. The pets will all go home microchipped, spayed or neutered and up-to-date on age-appropriate vaccinations. Adopters also qualify to become clients of their low-cost Clinic for Compassionate Care for veterinary care.
  • Richmond Animal Care and Control will offer adoptions at a reduced cost of $10 on Saturday, August 15. That will include the microchip fee.
  • Richmond Animal League will offer adoptions for a reduced cost of $10 on Saturday, with the exception of puppies under 6-months-old.
  • Chesterfield Animal Control is offering free adoptions from 10:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Saturday.
  • Appomattox County Public Animal Shelter will cover adoption fees, spay or neuter services, shots, heartworm tests and a microchip through Sunday, August 16. All must be done thru the South Central Spay/Neuter Clinic and residency restrictions may apply.
  • Goochland Animal Control will waive adoption fees on Saturday and reimburse for a portion of the spay and neuter costs.

You can email NBC12 if you know of any other shelters participating.
