Fundraiser planned for shot Richmond Police officer
RICHMOND, VA (WWBT) - Richmond Police Officer Ryan Bailey, a 9-year veteran on the force, was shot in the arm during a confrontation with a suspect earlier this week. That suspect died in the incident.
Now one of his colleagues is sharing with us how Officer Bailey is doing. Tony Paciello says his friend and colleague is very humble, very quiet and very professional.
"Actually, I've known him his whole career. He was my first trainee as a field training officer," said Officer Paciello.
Paciello says Officer Bailey isn't just a dedicated officer, he's also dedicated to the community.
"He takes time to talk to kids and interact with citizens. He comes in early on weekends, and there's programs at the ROC church and he goes and talks to kids over there," Paciello explained.
That's why Paciello says he wants to help Officer Bailey and his family. He's a husband and father of three, who is on administrative leave while the shooting is under investigation.
There is no date set for the fundraiser, but it could happen as soon as next week.
