RICHMOND, VA (WWBT) - Crews perched above four businesses poured thousands of gallons of water onto a Southside fire late Saturday, responding to a blaze that shut down part of Hull Street and Midlothian Turnpike.

Fire trucks extended ladders above the burning building at 2610 Hull St., as smoke billowed from the scene. Most of the roof above the structure collapsed before midnight Sunday.

At least one explosion was recorded on video, with power lines and a transformer near flames shooting through the roof.

The initial 911 call came in just before 10 p.m. Saturday, with no injuries reported as crews brought the situation under control.

The glow of smoke and emergency lights could be seen more than three miles away, with the scene visible from the NBC12 broadcast tower.

Firefighters reported the blaze was concentrated within the Taste of the Sea restaurant, with no one in the apartments above the ground floor.

The blaze did not spread to surrounding buildings. By early Sunday, the cause of the fire remained under investigation.
