RICHMOND, VA (WWBT) - Grocery delivery company Relay Foods wants to make your life easier. They now offer meal planning and let you buy all the ingredients you need to make each meal with the click of a button.

Helena von Rueden cooks dinner for her family each night. Already a customer, she became a tester for its new Meal Planning service.

"I love to cook but I don't have time to decide what I'm going to make and how are the leftover vegetables going to be incorporated into Wednesday's meal?" she said. "So their meal plans take care of all that and you can just press a button."

Von Rueden chooses the meals and pays online, Relay buys the ingredients. She picks it up in bags from one of their designated sites around town. And she can call up the recipe on the website or on email when she's ready to cook.

"I've tried a lot of new ingredients that I would have not have otherwise tried, and my toddler has tried them, too. So my toddler's eating things I didn't think she would, which has been great," von Rueden told us.

"We heard from our customers that they wanted an easier way to incorporate seasonal, but quick cooking and on-budget meals into their families' repertoire," said Sarah Yates, Relay's Vice President of Marketing.

Relay's recipes are designed by a registered dietician and utilize in-season, local produce. Customers can order a week of meals, choose dishes a la carte, or use Relay's Cook It! feature and import recipes from the web. They can even remove ingredients from the recipe shopping list for allergies or finicky eaters.

"It's completely flexible to what you want to do as a customer and as an eater!" said Yates.

"We have had a more diverse menu then we would have and we're eating more vegetables than we would have," added von Rueden.

Relay's Meal Planning service is free. Yates says most of the meals cost $4 to $8 per serving. There's no charge for pick-up orders over 50 dollars. Relay will deliver to your home for $12 to $15, or a monthly fee of $30.
