CHARLOTTESVILLE, VA (WWBT) - While the protests continue on the University of Virginia campus, activists are also taking to social media and extending the story far beyond Central Virginia.

Protesters are using the hashtag #BlackUVADemands and are flooding Twitter with posts. Some are asking the administration to do more about social issues, while the Black Students Alliance wants recognition of institutional racism in higher education nationwide.

The tone of the demands is very serious and the reach is growing. A video from news app Now This has been making the rounds online with hundreds of retweets and thousands of views.

Couple that with the hashtags #JusticeForMartese and #BlackLivesMatter and this story is being amplified all over the country and the world. As the protests continue, expect even more momentum to continue on Instagram, Twitter and Facebook.
