RICHMOND, VA (WWBT) - One local group aims to put smiles on the faces of single mothers.
They meet once a month to talk about a variety of topics, and on Tuesday, March 10, their meeting is all about beauty, inside and out.
The nationally renowned Lou Stevens Glam Squad makes ladies look and feel good.
Next Tuesday, the Richmond-based team will work its magic on members of SMILE - Single Moms in the Lord's Embrace.
"SMILE was created to try and help single moms in the Richmond area to help them feel empowered, to love on their own with confidence, and to raise their children in an environment where they can be positive role models," said SMILE co-founder Beverly Wells.
SMILE is based out of First Baptist Church in Richmond. Not only will the moms be treated to makeovers in what's being called "Frazzled to Fabulous". They'll be treated to the testimony of Lou Stevens herself.
"Single moms. That's my passion," said Lou Stevens.
This award-winning make up artist certainly identifies with their struggles. She, too, was a divorced, single mother - all while trying to build her business.
"I definitely know what it is like to have had no money, to have gone through periods of time when I had no child support, and had to make it completely on my own and take the leap of faith knowing that I was worried about money. Could I make it? Could I support my kids?" said Stevens.
She did, and now she spreads her message of motivation, faith, and a few beauty tips, because a little makeup -
"It changes your whole attitude," said Stevens.
The first step in what's needed to get a smile back on a face.
"This is an opportunity fort he moms to come in and be pampered a little bit. In order to be a good parent, you need to spend some time on yourself," said Wells.
SMILE's makeover event is now full, but for more information on upcoming events, contact Steve Blanchard at firstname.lastname@example.org.
All single mothers are welcome to attend. Dinner and childcare are provided.
