HOPEWELL, VA (WWBT) - Emergency crews responded to the Honeywell plant in Hopewell on Wednesday after a tank violently ruptured during cleaning.
According to a Honeywell spokesperson, a tank which was not in service was being cleaned for inspection when the tank became over pressurized and the top ruptured. The tank, which normally contains a type of sulfuric acid, was being cleaned with water.
The rupture did not cause a fire or explosion, but Hopewell Fire crews were called to the scene.
Employees initially were put on a shelter in place as a caution, which has since been lifted. No injuries were reported.
