PARK CITY, UT (WWBT) - A new documentary on Scientology and its ties to Hollywood premieres Sunday at the Sundance Film Festival, before heading to HBO.

The film, Going Clear: Scientology and the Prison of Belief, is quickly gaining buzz in the lead up to its premiere at the MARC Theater on Sunday. The film is based on  the similarly named Lawrence Wright best-seller, Going Clear: Scientology, Hollywood and the Prison of Belief and features vintage video of the religion's founder, L. Ron Hubbard, of Tom Cruise and other inside gatherings, according to The Hollywood Reporter.

In fact, Cruise and John Travolta are central to the scathing film, though either commented for the magazine's report. The Church of Scientology decried the film, likening it to the Rolling Stone article on the University of Virginia rape case, which was later deemed unfounded.

The Sundance Film Festival is just getting underway, but Alex Gibney's film will likely continue to make headlines for months to come and may even snag some awards along the way.
