Petersburg police are investigating the shootings of four people since late Tuesday night in separate incidents in the city. Two victims have died. Petersburg Police are looking into the possibility the shootings are connected and if it is gang related.
Jabari C. Lee, 35, of Dinwiddie was killed in a shooting around 11 p.m. on Slagle Avenue, according to Petersburg police.
Around an hour-and-a-half later the driver and passenger of a car in the 2000 block of Ferndale Avenue were shot. The passenger, Jaymonta Jones was taken to VCU Medical Center where he later died. The driver is still being treated at the hospital and is in stable condition, police said.
"All you do here is hear gunshots, you drive up the street, you go into the neighborhoods, all you hear is bullets," said Robert Scott, who lives near the scene of the shooting on Ferndale Avenue. "We just jumped on the floor, jumped off the bed, got on the floor and put our heads down and prayed," says Robert's wife Nancy Scott.
The latest shooting occurred around noon when a person in the Pin Oaks Housing Community was shot. He was taken to Southside Regional Medical Center. Police have not said the extent of the victim's injuries or detailed suspects in any of the cases.
