Update to snow storm, holiday travel forecast

Update to snow storm, holiday travel forecast

RICHMOND, VA (WWBT) - Snow is right now making its way west and is expected to make this holiday a treacherous one.

Temperatures will be falling from the 40s into the 30s today as low pressure develops offshore. More than a million drivers are hitting the roads for Thanksgiving - it's one of the busiest travel times of the year.

For Richmond and this part of Virginia, it means mainly rain, heavy at times that will taper during the afternoon. However, air will cool enough for a possible changeover to wet snow before it ends, and a light dusting may stick to grassy areas west of I-95 (within the metro area) as the precipitation moves out. Snow that accumulates appears more likely farther west of Richmond.

This winter system moving through Virginia is not just impacting the roads - it could also impact your travel plans at the airport.

Right now, Delta Flight 6222 from Richmond to New York City is canceled. It was supposed to depart at 10:35 a.m.

Also, Delta Flight 6293 from New York City to Richmond is delayed until 11 a.m.

Be sure that you constantly check your flight plans before you come out to the airport. If you do have a flight to catch, be sure to get here early and expect long lines and delays because of cancellations or setbacks in other areas.
