HENRICO, VA (WWBT) - A man who police say crashed into the Chickahominy River while trying to escape from officers now faces several charges.

Henrico Police say they tried to pull over Andrew Taylor Walters, 23, for driving erratically on Williamsburg Road at Elko Road late Monday evening. After a brief conversation with police, officers say Walters sped off.

Police later found Walter's car overturned in White Oak Swamp near the intersection of White Oak and East Williamsburg roads. Henrico Police and fire responded and found two women inside the car. Both were taken to the hospital and remain in critical condition.

Police, with the help of the fire department, found Walters about a mile away from the crash site and took him to the hospital to be treated for exposure.

Walters is being held at the Henrico County Jail without bond. He is charged with driving on a suspended license, failing to pull over for officers, proving false information to officers and an unrelated assault warrant from Hanover.
