Police recover SUV of missing police captain

WAYNESBORO, VA (WWBT) - State Police have recovered the SUV of a Virginia police captain who disappeared over the weekend.

Capt. Kevin W. Quick's silver 1999 Toyota 4Runner was spotted by Louisa County Sheriff deputies Monday, in a driveway belonging to Frank Houchens off Cedar Hill Road in Mineral. Investigators are now searching the vehicle for clues.

According to Houchens, he was watching the Super Bowl upstairs in his bedroom and went to bed after it was over. He says he awoke Monday morning and found the vehicle abandoned in his carport.

Houchens called police around 9 a.m. He says police from Harrisonburg showed him pictures of the suspect, but he did not recognize the suspect and doesn't know Quick.

Police say there is no evidence connecting Houchens to the vehicle or Quick's disappearance at this point in the investigation.

It had appeared in surveillance photographs taken in Fork Union Friday and in the Manassas area Saturday, according to Virginia State Police. The vehicle has Virginia license plates 614-068 with the seal of the Commonwealth in the middle.

Authorities have received several tips into the disappearance of Waynesboro Police Reservist Capt. Kevin W. Quick and are now tracking down the leads.

Police are also still looking for help identifying an individual shown in surveillance images who, along with a second man, may have information on Quick's disappearance. Businesses are banding together to offer a $8,000 reward for information in the case.

Quick was reported missing by family members Saturday. He was last seen 10:15 p.m. Friday when he left his mother's residence in Afton to visit a friend's home at the Turtle Creek Apartments in Albemarle County. Quick never arrived.

Police began to suspect foul play after photographs showed two unidentified adult males who investigators believe may have information regarding Quick's disappearance.

"Kevin and his family are an institution to the police auxiliary unit," said Sgt. Brian Edwards Waynesboro Police. "He is a generous and loyal friend to many of those who are present here today."

Quick is a white male, 6'1", and approximately 200 pounds. He has brown hair, hazel eyes and medium build. Quick wears contacts or glasses and has a scar above his left eye.

According to State Police, extensive ground and air searches have been conducted since Saturday night in the areas of Afton and Albemarle.

VSP are leading the investigation, with assistance from the Nelson County Sheriff's Office, Albemarle County Police Department, Charlottesville Police Department and the Waynesboro Police Department.
