HENRICO, VA (WWBT) - A Henrico County family is forced out of their home after a fire starts inside the walls.

Krista Betteridge was next door when the commotion all started in what she says is usually a quiet, close-knit neighborhood. The fire happened near the 500 block of Brookeside boulevard. She was downstairs doing laundry, then ran outside once the lights in her house started to flicker.

"Smoke is coming out of their house, popping and crackling, you could see sparks that are coming from the electrical box or something," Krista Betteridge said.

Krista says several neighbors quickly called the Henrico Fire Department.

"They identified that there was fire in the walls around the panel box, as well as fire spread to the attic," Lieutenant Jackson said.

While firefighters were working on getting this fire under control, they got a similar call 15 minutes later at a home across the street.

"Because of the quick thinking in our communications center by our communications officers, they were able to alert the on-sight officer that there was another fire in proximity to his location," Lieutenant Jackson said.

Lieutenant Jackson with Henrico Fire said that both fires are believed to have started because of wiring in the power boxes. Krista and other neighbors say power lines outside the home caught fire. She showed us where she even battled a small blaze in her backyard.

"That little spot here, it looked just like the spot next to the pole it was all black as it was on fire and it started throwing dirt on it."

Thankfully, the family made it out of the home okay and no one was hurt. Neighbors in this area have banned together to help the family who was displaced from their home. Fire officials say they are still working to determine the cause of this fire.
