HENRICO, VA (WWBT) - Two people are dead and a firefighter is injured after a fire at a Lakeside home early Wednesday.

Henrico firefighters responding to the blaze said flames were through the roof.

The cause of the fire and identities of the two victims remains unknown, as fire investigators begin to assess the damage. A Captain from Henrico Fire confirmed the victims were two adults, one male and one female.

The injured firefighter is at VCU being treated for minor burns to his face.

Neighbors on the 2800 block of Ginter Street first called 911 around 5 a.m., reporting heavy smoke coming from the brick home.

Four engine companies arrived, and firefighters found two bodies shortly after entering the house. Damage was contained to the residence.
