Family seeks answers in son's murder
CHESTERFIELD, VA (WWBT) - We're learning new information in the case of a murdered Chesterfield teen. Police confirm they are waiting on evidence from the lab, including clothing, and are hopeful it might have clues about who shot Matthew McDaniel last May.
McDaniel was gunned down, just yards from his own home as he was walking home from a friend's house. For his mourning family, it has been a long wait for justice, without many answers.
"This is hard to talk about," said McDaniel. When I came up here and what I saw was a blood stain. A big blood stain like this in the road."
"I'm hoping that they come up with a suspect," said Johnny McDaniel. "And I'm hoping they found him."
Since his death, Matthew McDaniel has missed his brother's wedding...his high school graduation. In fact, Matthew's mother walked in her dead son's place.
The wait has left a nagging, piercing question for the family, about who could do such a thing.
"I don't know who you are or what gives you the right to pull a gun and take a life, especially my son," said McDaniel. "I want to see you in jail. I want to see you in court. And I'm not going to stop until that happens."
And until it does, Johnny McDaniel finds comfort in a memorial created in his son's honor- a place where he knows people remember his son, and who he could have been.
The family has also started this web page memorial with more on the search for Matthew's killer and how to help. Click Here to read more.
