RICHMOND, VA (WWBT) - It's not just competition restaurant owners in the Fan are trying to protect their bottom lines from: it's thieves too! Fan restaurant owner Jake Crocker has been burglarized twice in three months.
Overnight Monday, burglars hit Jorge Cantina's on Floyd Avenue in the Fan. Richmond police confirm they are investigating the crime.
Crocker says, this is not the first time one of his restaurants has been targeted by crooks. In June, thieves struck his other restaurant "Uptown Market and Deli" on West Main Street. He says, over $3,000 were stolen.
Crocker no longer keeps his safe inside his restaurants and has made his buildings more secure. Still, the entrepreneur says, it's difficult enough being a restaurant owner with all the competition in the Fan.
According to a study released by Richmond.com, the River City has the second most restaurants per person in the country.
"The burglaries are causing temporary setbacks, damage to our property and people are taking our hard-earned revenue," said Crocker.
Still he's surprised by the crimes saying, incidents like these are out of the ordinary in the Fan.
"We haven't really had any problems in a long time with crime," Crocker said. "But we are targets because we have lots of exchanges of cash."
