RICHMOND, VA (WWBT) - Maggie Walker Governor's School was just named the 14th best public high school in the country by Newsweek and The Daily Beast.
"Maggie Walker tenaciously pursues our mission to prepare students for leadership in an international context," said Director Jeff McGee. "This prestigious recognition is shared by our students, families, staff, and partnering school divisions who combine to make our school a shining example of all that is right in public education. Maggie Walker is indeed one of the world's premier public high schools."
The list is based on six factors, according to Newsweek and The Daily Beast. The factors are graduation rate (25 percent), college acceptance rate (25 percent), AP/IB/AICE tests taken per student (25 percent), average SAT/ACT scores (10 percent), average AP/IB/AICE scores (10 percent), and percent of students enrolled in at least one AP/IB/AICE course (5 percent).
Several other Virginia schools made the list, including Deep Run and Richmond Community high schools.
