Cosby takes down James River to win Region

MECHANICSVILLE, VA (WWBT) - The James River and the Cosby baseball teams just can't escape each other.  The two teams were the best teams in the region all season long, and they faced off for the fourth time this season with a region championship on the line.

The Titans took down the Rapids Thursday night at Hanover High School, 11-1.  Keenan Caldwell slammed a three run homer, and David Byrd was lights out on the hill for Cosby.  Both teams advance to the state tournament, but Cosby will host a quarterfinal matchup on Tuesday, while James River will have to travel.

If the teams meet in the state championship game, it will be a rubber match, as the series is tied 2-2 this season.

On the softball diamond, Cosby moved on to the region championship game, by downing reigning state champion Lee-Davis 3-1.  The Titans will play Patrick Henry Friday - the Patriots beat Atlee 1-0.
