COLONIAL HEIGHTS, VA (WWBT) - The search is on tonight for a predator who tried to attack two young sisters in Colonial Heights. It happened around 10pm last night in Colonial Heights on Conduit Road, which is a busy street.

Police say the man came up behind them and tried to pull down one of the girls' pants. It happened on Memorial Day, around 10pm in the 4800 block.

Investigators are working hard to figure out what happened, but to date there have been no arrests.

It's a road known in colonial heights for walkers, bikers, and joggers.

"Every day, every night, every evening. There's always somebody walking these streets here," said neighbor Donald Townsend who lives on the block of Conduit Road where the incident happened.

On Monday night, it was a dangerous place for two sisters. One was 18, the other even younger. Police say the sisters were just walking down Conduit Road when a man came up behind them and tried to pull one of their pants off. And when they turned around, he ran off.

Police say one of the girls tried to chase down the attacker but he got away. The victim called for help and the police started looking for the man a short time later.

It was a big scene in a small town.

"It looked like they were looking for a person or something, and they took flashlights and were looking through all their bushes and knocking on doors and stuff," said Emily Minton who watched police shooting out her front window.

"Two policemen came over and asked me if I saw anything," added her mother, Beth.

The Mintons didn't, and at this point police have a very generic description of the suspect.

There's no indication the victims knew their attacker.

It's news that has many in this usually quiet neighborhood angry and concerned.

"I'm very shocked because I have a daughter here and I have a close friend that lives next door that has a daughter here," said Staff Sgt. Maudrica Mitchell. "I'm shocked to hear."

"You should be able to walk down the street without nobody pulling the clothes off of ya," added Townsend.

Police say they don't think this incident was related to any other incidents in Colonial Heights lately. If you saw anything, call Crime Solvers at 748-0660.
