Victim in deadly accident on I-64 East identified
NEW KENT, VA (WWBT) - A woman is dead following a two vehicle crash that took place late Sunday evening October 2, 2011. At 10:31 p.m. last night, Virginia State Police Trooper was called to the scene on Interstate 64 eastbound near the 207 mile marker in New Kent County.
The crash occurred when the driver of a 1995 Honda Civic, traveling in the left lane, attempted to change lanes and was struck in the rear by a 2007 Volvo 770 Tractor.
The driver of the Honda and her front seat passenger were not injured in the crash. They were both wearing their safety belts. The rear seat passenger, Patrice E. Dilworth, 41, died at the scene. It remains under investigation whether Dilworth was wearing her safety belt.
The driver of the Volvo, Billy L. Brown Jr., 34, was not injured in the crash and was not wearing his safety belt.
The Virginia State Police Accident Reconstruction Team and Motor Carrier Inspection Unit assisted with the ongoing investigation.
Interstate 64 eastbound was closed for approximately 6 hours while crews reconstructed the crash and to allow for clean up of the scene.
The New Kent County Sherrif's Office assisted during the investigation. No charges have been filed as the crash remains under investigation.
Dilworth, of the 700 block of Creamer Road in Norfolk, was the mother of the Honda driver.
