Chesterfield man charged in deadly assault

RICHMOND, VA (WWBT) - A Radford University student from Chesterfield has been charged with a recent murder.

Police say this incident happened in August. The charges upgraded to murder after the victim died. Now their suspect is waking up in jail Wednesday morning.

Investigators said that on August 19, 24-year-old Eric Czajkowski hit a man in downtown Radford after hearing him say something he didn't like.

Police explain Czajkowski's punches were so hard, it forced 39-year-old Michael Duncan to fall, hitting his head on the sidewalk.

Duncan died in a hospital three days later. By this time, Czajkowski had already come back home to Chesterfield County.

Police arrested him Friday after a Grand Jury indicted him on Second Degree Murder charges.

The medical examiner is still working to figure out what exactly killed Duncan. Czajkowski is expected in court on Friday.
