World record broken after 143-pound blue catfish caught in Kerr Lake
CLARKSVILLE, VA (WWBT) - The Mecklenburg News-Progress reports 29-year-old Nick Anderson caught a 143-pound blue catfish over the weekend during a father-and-son fishing trip in Kerr Lake.
It shatters the old world-record of 130 pounds.
Anderson said the catfish was caught around the Goat Island area of the lake.
The News-Progress reports that Anderson did not give away his secret bait but said that the fish was caught using an "Ugly Stick" rod with a Shimano reel and 30 pound test line. It took Anderson, his father and brother, more than 45 minutes to wrestle the fish into their pontoon boat.
The fish was so big that the anglers had to go to a nearby farm supply store to find a scale large enough to weight-in. Final measurements put the fish at 57 inches long with a girth of 47 inches.
Anderson says, he's not giving away his secret bait!
