RICHMOND, VA (WWBT) - While the recent heat-wave may not be appreciated by everyone, Virginia peach growers are welcoming the warm weather.
The Commonwealth's peach season is just about to get underway, and growers say the high temperatures are putting a sweet finishing touch on the fruit.
"All that heat we've got has taken that snow away," said peach farmer Danny Johnson. "They're sweeter because the dry weather will keep the peach from picking up a whole lot of water."
And a tip if you're looking to buy the fruit: the smaller the peach, the sweeter the peach.
Growers say bigger peaches don't have as much sugar as smaller ones.
Virginia's peach season runs from mid-July to labor day.
