Man arrested in Dinwiddie after long high speed chase

DINWIDDIE, VA (WWBT) - We are learning more about a high speed chase overnight in Dinwiddie County. We received many of your phone calls about this chase last night.

Police have arrested Willie E. Harris, Jr., 41, of Richmond.  He has been charged with one count of felony eluding police, three counts of felony attempted capital murder, three counts of felony destruction of property, two misdemeanor destruction of property and resisting arrest.

Police say the chase began in Chesterfield when Harris attempted to escape a police checkpoint.  It then moved into Dinwiddie County, where police there helped to get him into custody just before 11 p.m.  During the chase, Harris struck three police cruisers.   No one involved was seriously injured.

State police say it ended in Dinwiddie at Route 1 and Simpson Avenue. That's in front of a Waffle House.
