HOPEWELL, VA (NBC12) - We're following a crime alert out of Hopewell where a woman woke up to find all of her tires stolen.
It happened on the 500 block of Bolling Court close to Fort Lee.
It all started when Sheila Williams' neighbor knocked on her door at 6:30 Saturday morning.
"She said you don't have no tires on your car," Williams said.
Williams came outside, and couldn't believe her eyes.
"It was very shocking," she said. "All I could do was cry and pray and ask God why?"
Why, and more importantly who and how are questions for which she doesn't have answers.
Her neighbor Annette Walker thinks she may have seen something that could help police.
"I opened my door around 5:00 and some guy, dressed all in black, was jacking the car up," said Walker. "I came back out around 5:30 to go to work and he was peeling out in the car, I guess with the tires."
Walker says at the time, she thought the man was fixing a flat tire.
She says the thief was driving some sort of Honda.
It's information Sheila Williams gave to officers when she filed a police report this morning.
"You look for something like this to happen in New York or DC not right here in Hopewell below Fort Lee," said Williams.
Williams bought brand new tires just three months ago.
She's now out more than $500.
"I dont have a job I'm out here looking each and everyday for a job and I needed my car to get back and forth to look and to get to church," she said.
While Williams was able to get four replacement tires from a Dinwiddie junk yard, she thinks this kind of bizarre incident is a sign of the times.
Now, she's planning to move to Nottoway County.
Williams did file a report with Hopewell Police.
