A hot summer evening in Wilmington was made a little cooler for three dogs when their loving owners brought them to a nearby pond to play and swim Thursday night. Just hours later all three dogs were dead, their owner’s lives now shattered.
Leslie walked into the Asheville Humane Society July 24 with a question and a request: “Which two dogs have been here the longest, with the most special needs? I’m here to take them both home with me.”
Supporters of the ban say the procedure is painful and inhumane. A cat’s claws are attached to bone, so declawing requires slicing through tendon and nerves to remove the last segment of bone in a cat’s toes, according to a report by the Associated Press.
The Humane Society of the United States said 130 dogs and cats will arrive in at Manassas Regional Airport and be transferred to various animal rescue organizations in Virginia and Maryland, including Richmond Animal Care and Control.
