Meteorologist Ros Runner is a Central Virginia native, growing up in Prince George County and tracking the weather since he was about 8 years old. He earned his undergraduate degree from the College of William and Mary and received his Master's degree in Broadcast Meteorology from Mississippi State University. He has worked at television stations in Jackson, Miss.; Columbia, S.C.;, Roanoke; and at WTVR in Richmond.

After a recent break in the heat and humidity, it will be returning with a vengeance beginning Monday with the peak of a "mini heat wave" occurring on Tuesday and Wednesday. This is when the actual high temperatures are expected to reach the mid 90s and when you factor in the humidity, it will feel closer to 105° during the afternoon. Monday is a FIRST ALERT WEATHER DAY as the Storm Prediction Center has placed much of Central Virginia under a MARGINAL RISK of severe storms: While some spotty showers or isolated thunderstorms can't be ruled out Monday morning, it will be later in the afternoon and evening when we'll have a greater number of scattered showers and thunderstorms popping up over our region.

The Storm Prediction Center (SPC) has outlined a rather small area of Central Virginia that may be vulnerable to a few stronger thunderstorms on Sunday afternoon and evening. Take note that areas from Richmond south through the Tri-Cities down into northern North Carolina are under the *MARGINAL* risk of severe storms.

The next storm system will be arriving in Virginia later tonight into the day tomorrow. The initial wave of moisture will primarily affect the northwestern portion of the state late tonight into tomorrow morning and it will likely be cold enough in these areas for some wintry precipitation. Perhaps a slushy, light accumulation of snow with a light coating of ice on top. Not a major storm, but just enough to cause some travel difficulties for the Wednesday morning commute.
