Victim, suspect in deadly shooting at VCU Medical Center identified
RICHMOND, Va. (WWBT) - A fight between two coworkers led to a deadly shooting early Monday at VCU Medical Center North Hospital, police said.
Police were called to the hospital just after midnight Wednesday for reports of an active threat.
Officers quickly responded and found a man shot in the stairwell.
The victim, 25-year-old Ty-Quan White of Richmond, died shortly after the shooting.
Police say the suspect, 24-year-old Christopher Boisseau of Henrico County, was quickly taken into custody and charged with maliciously shooting within a building. Additional charges are pending.
Police say the shooting happened after the two coworkers got into a fight.
Sources tell NBC12 the two were working in a janitorial role in the hospital.
“It’s important not only for staff and patients here but for the greater community to understand the situation is no longer an active threat to the community,” said Interim Police Chief Rick Edwards.
A joint investigation between VCU Police and the Richmond Police Department into the incident is ongoing.
