Fire damages King’s Supermarket in Richmond
RICHMOND, Va. (WWBT) - The Richmond Fire Department responded to an early morning fire on Keswick Avenue at King’s Supermarket.
It took crews about an hour to contain the 2-alarm fire, which broke out around 6 a.m.
No injuries have been reported.
Firefighters are still figuring out the cause of the fire after they spent hours at the scene investigating.
The damage inside the store is significant, but the building is not a total loss.
“One good thing is I had insurance,” said John Jeong, the store’s owner. “I’m going to talk to the insurance company.”
Jeong says he plans to rebuild the store eventually, but right now he’s more concerned about his customers since there are not too many grocery options nearby.
He says he has a large regular customer base, including those that receive their groceries through deliveries.
Since he has no idea how long it’s going to take to rebuild, Jeong says he’s working with other stores to help his employees find a job.
