Health districts in Central Virginia move to Phase 2 vaccinations

RICHMOND, Va. (WWBT) - The Virginia Department of Health announced health districts in Central Virginia have expanded into Phase 2 of COVID-19 vaccinations.

“But it’s very important to remember that we’re just starting phase two so it could be some time until everyone who qualifies is able to get an appointment,” said Dr. Alexander Samuel, Chesterfield Health District.

Health districts that have expanded into Phase 2 include:

  • Richmond and Henrico
  • Chesterfield
  • Chickahominy

All residents within these districts who are 16 years of age and older are now eligible for the vaccine.

“Each of our health districts have more or less used similar approaches, similar frameworks to this as we have had limited vaccine supply. So we have sorted the pre-registration list using factors related to age, race, zip code and when individuals have actually signed up,” said Dr. Samuel.

The VDH says many residents who have pre-registered for the vaccine will receive emails and phone calls starting Friday to schedule their appointment as soon as next week.

“The public can see the same metrics that we’re seeing and we can tell how many folks 70 and older have been vaccinated already. And how many, how much of the black population has been vaccinated. How much of the Latino population has been vaccinated,” said Dr. Thomas Franck, Chickahominy Health District.

To pre-register for the vaccine call 877-829-4682 or click here.

“So, we will continue to make sure there’s accessible vaccine for all of those phases,” said Amy Popovich, RHHD Nurse Manager.
