Former pro Daniels hosts spring break football mini-camp
MIDLOTHIAN, Va. (WWBT) - Nate Daniels had plenty of people to push him during his football career. Now he’s looking to do the same.
Daniels, owner of Daniels Sports Performance in Midlothian, spent the week hosting small groups of wide receivers and defensive backs for a spring break mini-camp. His goal is to push fundamentals and technique so these players, ages 10-18, can fine tune their skills.
“I wanted to provide an opportunity for guys that weren’t going way for spring break that wanted to get some work in to be able to come and do that,” Daniels said. “Some guys are just finishing their seasons up and some are moving onto playoffs, so I wanted to provide that opportunity for them to get better.”
Daniels certainly has the experience to fall back on. He’s a member of the Fairfax High School Hall of Fame and played defensive back at Ferrum College, where he was inducted to the hall of fame in 2017. Daniels got an NFL shot with the Ravens and put together a six year career in the Arena League. He’s been serving as a personal trainer for the last decade and opened Daniels Sports Performance in January of 2020.
“I just take pride and have so much passion in passing along all that information and all that knowledge to the next generation of athletes.”
Daniels is doing just that, not just with this week’s camp, but with his business. He wants to provide mentorship, motivation and opportunities, just like others did for him when he was younger.
“I always knew when I finished playing I wanted to do so,” Daniels said of becoming a coach who could help make other athletes better. “I wanted to provide an opportunity in an environment where guys that were hungry and that were motivated and that wanted to be around someone who has walked in their shoes and knows their journey and knows their plight, that they could come and do that.”
There is more to this former professional football player than just coaching and training. During the pandemic, Daniels wrote a children’s book, So You Want to Be a Pro, which hit number one on Amazon’s children’s new releases list.
