Light Snow, With Windy Day

Overnight light snow should taper around sunrise for the Richmond metro. Another potentially more significant storm arrives for the second half of the weekend.

Today icy spots are possible. Quick exit of any early morning snow showers. Then skies clear quickly Morning low in the upper 20s. Highs in the upper 30s. A windy and cold day.

First Alert Weather Day: Snow ❄️

The National Weather service has south-side Virginia under a Winter Weather Advisory. In Mecklenburg, Brunswick, Greensville, Sussex, Southampton counties, 1-2″ of snow is expected, with locally higher amounts near 3 inches possible near the NC state line.

Our Richmond Metro forecast is for a dusting to 1 inch of snow. Most accumulates on grassy areas, but as it melts on roads, it could then freeze, meaning we should be careful for icy spots Thursday morning.

Watch Out For Black Ice!

The Virginia Department of Transportation is preparing to make sure roads stay safe with the chance of wintry weather overnight Wednesday into Thursday morning.

Light accumulating snow is expected for most of Central Virginia Wednesday night into Thursday morning.

Crews were mobilized Wednesday night on interstates south of Petersburg to monitor roads.

Vaccine Rollout Improvements For Chesterfield

After days of frustration about Chesterfield’s vaccine rollout, the county’s Health District Director Dr. Alex Samuel announced improvements in the form of a new scheduling system that should make it easier for residents to get a shot after pre-registering online.

The new scheduling system, known as Prep-Mod, will be replacing the web-based application Vaccine Administration Management System (VAMS) which supports planning and execution for temporary, mobile, or satellite COVID-19 vaccination clinics.

Vaccines For School Staff

Chesterfield County Public Schools announced they have received first doses of the vaccine for all staff in Cohorts 1 and 2 who were interested in taking the vaccine.

This is an update from last Tuesday, when Chesterfield County Public Schools told its teachers and staff there was a delay in vaccinating most employees due to supply issues with the COVID-19 vaccine.

The school division received 1,290 COVID vaccine doses earlier this week, and expects to receive 1,230 of the 1,500 doses being provided to Chesterfield County next week.

Westminster Canterbury Vaccines Canceled

Westminster Canterbury in Henrico says a vaccination clinic that was scheduled on-site next month won’t happen, but they say it’s not their fault.

Officials at Westminster Canterbury say if their residents and families are frustrated, and so are they. They’re pointing the blame at CVS who they say promised to show up but suddenly pulled out.

It was supposed to happen over a two day period next month.

Now, officials don’t know when it will happen.

State Of City Address Postponed

Richmond Mayor Levar Stoney announced Wednesday, January 27, that he tested positive for coronavirus, postponing his annual State of the City address.

The mayor learned of his result Wednesday morning after undergoing a PCR test following the onset of mild symptoms Monday.

Per CDC guidelines, the mayor will isolate at home. Anyone he came in contact with has been notified.

As a result, the mayor’s virtual State of the City address scheduled for Thursday, Jan. 28 has been postponed and will now take place on Thursday, Feb. 11.

Wildlife License Plates

The Virginia Department of Wildlife Resources has announced its newest “Wildlife Conservationist” license plate.

The plate features a red salamander, which was named Virginia’s official state salamander in 2018.

The red salamander plate is the ninth in a series of wildlife conservation license plates produced by the Department of Motor Vehicles.
