RICHMOND, Va. (WWBT) - As we continue the trend of shopping online-- we want to help you be smart about it.
We caught up with Sara Skirboll, a shopping and trends expert with RetailMeNot. Skirboll has some great advice for keeping your online shopping trips safe and secure.
First, make sure you’re checking your credit card statements and your bank statements regularly. Make sure there’s no fishy activity. Check at least several times a week.
Make sure you are shopping on legitimate websites. Don’t click on a random ad in your Facebook feed. Go to websites for retailers you know and trust.
If you have a funny feeling in your gut something doesn’t look right on the website, don’t shop there.
“There’s a lot scammers out there with websites creating fake websites to always make sure that that website you’re shopping at has that ‘HTTPS’. The S stands for secure that’s really very important,” Skirboll said.
Also make sure you are finding a coupon code or a cashback offer for anything you are looking to buy online.
Add a browser extension to your laptop like Deal Finder. It will automatically look for those discounts and apply them at checkout.
That’s all the good ways to stay safe and even save a little money online.
